A newsletter for members, family and friends of Welcyon.
Busy, busy, busy...that's how I'd describe the past two months here at Welcyon. Not only did we open our first franchise in Sioux Falls, but we signed the agreement for three additional franchise locations in the Twin Cities. On top of that, some staff members were promoted and we hired an award-winning marketing expert to round out our corporate team.
I felt an overwhelming sense of pride when the Sioux Falls Welcyon opened its doors for business in early September. Mark Richards, Marilyn Birkelo and I had the privilege of training their new fitness coaches and experiencing the leadership of owners Jesse and Cori Reisch. Within weeks of their grand opening, I started hearing amazing success stories. One member reported a significant improvement in her chronic shoulder, neck and back pain. Another person with severe leg cramps was finally able to sleep through the night. And yet another member says her back spasms went away after working out at Welcyon.
I'm looking forward to even more positive stories when we increase our presence in the Twin Cities. We are so blessed and fortunate to have found Brian and Diane Raehsler. They both have impressive professional backgrounds along with a strong desire to help others. The couple will own three Welcyon clubs; the first one will open in Woodbury in January.
I'm pleased to announce that our corporate team is getting stronger. We recently hired Bill Rodriguez as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. He is recognized for playing a key role in the growth of some of Minnesota's most respected brands, including Snap Fitness, HealthPartners, Lifetouch, Minnesota Twins, Nordic Track and the local United Way. He comes to us with a great passion for improving health and fitness.
Finally, we have shifted some positions. Marilyn Birkelo has stepped into the role of Director of Franchise Support while Gail Bolger was promoted to Corporate Club Manager.
With all of this excitement, I want you to know that we are still focused on you, the customer. Our fitness coaches continue to offer world-class customer service and we are committed to helping you achieve real results.
Rarely do you pick up a book that honestly changes your life. Let me introduce you to New York Times Bestseller Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley and Dr. Henry Lodge. We all know there are days when it’s difficult to find the motivation to work out. This book offers some of the most compelling reasons why you can’t stop exercising on the journey to becoming your best self. Younger Next Year tells you how to turn back the biological clock and enforces why Welcyon has you headed in the right direction.
The premise of the book is that each day, you are either growing or decaying. Exercise is the master signal for growth while sedentary behavior is the big indicator of decay. “The keys to overriding the decay code are daily exercise, emotional commitment, reasonable nutrition and a real engagement with living. But it starts with exercise.”
The most important thing: you have a choice. According to the book, “Over 50 percent of all illness and injury in the last third of your life can be eliminated by changing your lifestyle.” Younger Next Year also says that 70 percent of the normal decay associated with aging (sore joints, weakness, lousy balance) can be forestalled almost until the end.
By joining Welcyon, you have already made the decision to grow. This is such a joy for me. I love hearing stories of growth—I can lift my grandchild into his car seat; I can take a tub bath and get out; my blood pressure is lower; I have energy again. So keep on exercising, and you too, will be younger next year.
Belong to Strong.
Hip hip hooray! The Welcyon family is growing. We’re thrilled to announce the latest milestone—the sale of our first official franchise. Maybe you already heard, but the new club will open in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in September.
When we began this mission, we made a promise to look for people who matched our core values and had a passion for helping others. That is reflected in our first franchisees, Jesse and Cori Reisch. They are a perfect fit in so many ways. Both have a background in exercise physiology and served as cardiac rehabilitation therapists. Jesse also worked as a personal trainer. The couple is very knowledgeable about marketing and owned a successful AFLAC insurance agency in Mankato and Omaha. Jesse and Cori have two young children and family in Luverne and Rapid City.
It’s so exciting to see Welcyon grow. Of course, our goal is to impact the health of over one million aging adults. We’ve already seen the positive changes Welcyon has made in the lives of our Minnesota members. People are getting stronger and gaining energy every day. It’s just a matter of time before others are experiencing the life-changing results of Welcyon.
Stay tuned for more developments on the franchise front. Maybe you know someone? Please feel free to pick up a bookmark at the front desk with all of our franchise contact information.

Just like our tagline says, We Belong to Strong™, and we are getting stronger every day.

We are dedicated to following the Golden Rule—treating others the way we would want to be treated. We have created a customer service culture that really puts you first. It begins with leadership that walks the talk. The other crucial piece is our staff. Welcyon looks for fitness coaches and a manager, who inherently want to help others.
