Welcyon’s Tom Boerboom Named to The (Real) Power 50; Recognized as “One Who Makes Things Happen”
EDINA, Minn. – Tom Boerboom, co-founder and president of Welcyon, Fitness After 50, has been selected to The (Real) Power 50 by Minnesota Business magazine.

Boerboom has had a long career in the health care business, spanning more than 35 years as an executive with various long-term care providers. Together with his wife, Suzy, he also owned six successful Curves franchises. That experience, coupled with several years of ruminating on the needs of fellow baby boomers, led them to create Welcyon, a Minneapolis-based franchise that operates fitness centers designed specifically for people age 50 and over.
Since 2009, Boerboom has continued to “make things happen.”
Welcyon has opened three gyms – two in suburban Minneapolis and one in Sioux Falls, South Dakota – and is seeking to open as many as 20 franchised locations over the next 12 months. The company’s long-term goal is to have 1 million members, a realistic aim when you consider some 70 million Americans will be 65 or older by 2030.
